Practice Tips
Practice makes…
Play slowly
Evaluate your playing
Rhythm first
Focus on the problem
Expect your best
Correctly play 5 times in a row
Take a break when frustrated
Remember…practicing your instrument is your homework for this class. Treat it as such. You should practice at least 5 days a week.
1. Set up a routine. This means a consistent practice time.
2. Find a quiet place to practice, free of distractions.
3. Plan what you’d like to accomplish.
4. Know the difference between playing and practicing!
5. Fill out your practice calendar.
6. Set up a reward system with your parents (weekly or monthly).
7. Be patient. Everyone has trouble doing something.
Typical 15 Minute Practice Session:
1 minutes of warming up – scales, long tones, bowings, vibrato
2 minutes of playing – something fun and easy for you
10 minutes of practicing – set goals and work hard
2 minutes of playing – something fun or maybe play what you
just practiced as a good conclusion
